Nearby Evidence for Dark Energy
Description:
New research suggests evidence of dark energy in our cosmic backyard, but theorists are still divided on explanations for the ever-increasing speed with which the universe is expanding. Until now, evidence for dark energy, a mysterious antigravity force apparently pushing galaxies outward at an accelerating pace, has only been found in the farthest reaches of the universe. But an international team of researchers has used computer models supported by observations from the Hubble Space Telescope to find hints of dark energy closer by.

Hypographies: The Power of Nothing
Description:
The concept of zero is as fascinating as it is impossible. But is this elusive digit a product of the human mind? Created by Tormod Guldvog It has a simple job, zero. All it needs to do is connect the positive and negative integers into one, straight line of numbers. But while the integers stretch out into infinity, zero itself has properties which no other number can match. Zero is a troublemaker in the world of mathematics. But it has not always existed - the concept of zero was not born until only a few millennia ago. Even today, children have problems grappling with the concept of nothing at all. Although mathematicians might cringe at the notion, there are philosophers who argue that zero is simply a construct of the human mind. There is nothing in the universe, they argue, that constitutes a physical representation of zero. This hypography presents articles and websites that explain the power of nothing, and that shows how simple math problems become impossibe, hair-raising monsters when zero pops up.

Evangelicals and Crackpot Science
Description:
ABSTRACT: Because of the tension which has developed between the scientific and the evangelical communities in the past century and a half, Bible believers are often (rightly or wrongly) suspicious of the discoveries and theorizing of modern science. This has led to a rather widespread attraction to theories viewed as crackpot by scientists and other educated people. Some examples are discussed and strategies proposed to protect Christians from looking unnecessarily foolish before the watching world.

Stephen Hawking's Universe: Strange Stuff Explained
Description:
A massive star starts to collapse when it exhausts its nuclear fuel and can no longer counteract the inward pull of gravity. The crushing weight of the starís overlying layers implodes the core, and the star digs deeper into the fabric of space-time. Although the star remains barely visible, its light now has a difficult time climbing out of the enormous gravity of the still-collapsing core. The star passes through its event horizon and disappears from our universe, forming a singularity of infinite density.

The Dubious Pleasure of Discovering the Fundamental Law of the Universe
Description:
The Dubious Pleasure of Discovering the Fundamental Law of the Universe. In this document there are to be found three different spiritual metaphoric descriptions of the unique (only possible once) experience of discovering the only possible; THEORY OF EVERYTHING. The first is a spiritual allegory taken from the Bible, the second is an allegory taken from Niels Bohr, and the third and last, a spiritual metaphor taken from the writings of physics in the last decade of the 20th century. All of these describe, or predict, a difficult process for digesting, or resolving, or understanding the implications of the fundamental insight. Where as it may be a wonderful experience at first making a fundamental discovery, it certainly becomes a most strenuous process of digesting the information it contains. In the case of the discoverer being a person which is not a physicist, this will even be a more strenuous test of his person and can become a curse, as is indeed the case with Mr. 666, after he goes through; "The Seven Bowls of God's Anger."

The Importance of Being Nothingness
Description:
Scientists banter endlessly these days about The Mysterious Vacuum. Like aliens in a crackpot conspiracy theory, the vacuum seems to be connected to everything: dark energy, dark matter, the anthropic principle, parallel universes (or multiverses), the theory of everything, black holes, extra dimensions, gravitational waves, you name it. Everything is connected to Nothing is connected to Everything. The surreal wordplay of confusing jargon makes you wonder: Is there any There there?
